On Sunday, September 1st, 2019, a category 5 hurricane named Dorian released its wrath on the Island of Abaco in the Bahamas with winds in excess of 185mph and wind gusts of over 200mph, decimating at least 60% of the island. The storm moved on to Grand Bahama, bearing down on the island moving only 1mph, leaving behind mass flooding and unprecedented devastation.

To date, thousands of homes and businesses have been destroyed, leaving many Bahamians homeless with no source of income. Residents say they have lost everything. This vicious storm is the worst in the country’s history, officially claiming over 40 lives with “the death toll expected to increase significantly” as hundreds remain missing according to Government Officials.

PNBC’s 21st President, Rev. Dr. Timothy Stewart and his family who reside on the island of Nassau were not directly affected by the storm and have been marked safe. Dr. Keith Russell, VP at Large for the International Region, experienced the full brunt of the storm in Grand Bahama and has also been marked safe along with other PNBC officers and representatives who were hit by the storm.

Under the leadership and direction of Dr. Stewart, the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. is launching an extensive campaign to aid, assist and support the citizens of The Bahamas through a highly responsive internal infrastructure that will provide strategic disaster response, relief and recovery to those most affected by Hurricane Dorian. “I have never seen this much devastation and pain in my country before. As the church and as brothers and sisters in Christ, we must reach out to the most broken and vulnerable among us, exemplifying the love, Spirit and light of Christ during the Bahamas’ darkest hour,” said President Stewart.

Dr. Frankie T. Jones Sr., Chairman of PNBC’s Disaster Preparedness shared, “PNBC is committed and dedicated to providing a rapid response and efficient relief support ministry to the citizens of The Bahamas.” President Stewart is in direct contact with the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, top Government officials and the reputable organizations and agencies primarily responsible for coordinating disaster relief efforts.

We are calling on all Pastors, Leaders and concerned citizens in the United States and around the world to join us in our efforts to provide relief and assist with the rebuilding of these islands of The Bahamas. A special Disaster Relief Fund has been created to receive donations and special offerings for the people of the Bahamas. 100% of the funds collected will be donated towards these efforts. Immediate and urgent needs include Food items, canned goods, water, First Aid Supplies, Batteries, Flashlights, Can openers, deodorant, toothbrushes, tents, off bug spray (OFF), clothing and Sanitary Products.

Churches may immediately contribute in their Sunday morning offering, conduct a food/goods drive, designate a monthly offering and/or elect to launch special fund raising programs. Please make donations payable to the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc., marked for the PNBC Bahamas Disaster Relief Fund.
