2020 Annual Session Cancellation
2 We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers. 3 We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 (NIV)
Greetings Southwest Region Family,
It is with mixed emotions and deep regret that I report that the uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic make it necessary to cancel our 49th Annual Session, scheduled for June 29th to July 3rd, 2020 in Las Vegas, NV.
Much prayer, research, coordination with Headquarters and some Southwest Region leaders undergirded this decision. I was excited and looking forward to Presiding over my 1st Annual Session. However, the health and safety of human life are of paramount concern. I do not see any reasonable alternative to cancellation.
Even as I pen these words, the United States leads the world in confirmed cases and the number of related deaths continues to rise exponentially. Scientists, medical experts and Government leaders are uncertain of what timelines we may be facing with regard to social distancing guidelines and mandates.
Our entire nation is on the edge of our seats and in front of news stations listening for a time that this pandemic will begin to subside. I encourage full compliance with the guidelines and suggestions of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the World Health Organization (HWO) as well as your local governmental leadership.
Though we will be distant physically in June, let us remain connected spiritually as we rest in God’s care. God bless and keep each of you and God bless the Southwest Region. Remember to pray for the workers in the medical field who are fighting COVID-19 on the front line, the patients who have passed away, their families and certainly those who are still fighting for their lives.
Remember “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1 NIV
