Rev. Dr. Charles Edward Booth
The Progressive National Baptist Convention Incorporated joins scores of pastors, leaders and people around the world as we continue to mourn the passing of pastor, mentor, theologian, activist, family man, friend and master homiletician, Rev. Dr. Charles Edward Booth. We reflect on the life and legacy of a man who has served this great convention with integrity and distinction as one of our signal leaders and standard bearers.
For more than 40 years, Dr. Booth served as Pastor of the historic Mount Olivet Baptist Church of Columbus, Ohio where he succeeded Rev. Dr. H. Beecher Hicks Sr.
Dr. Booth earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Howard University and his Master of Divinity degree from Eastern Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio where he served as a member of the Board of Trustees. For four years, Dr. Booth faithfully served as the leader of the PNBC Pastors and Ministers Division. We give thanks and honor for his integrity, commitment and unwavering dedication.
Undeniably one of the greatest homileticians and prophetic voices of our time, Dr. Booth’s impact is echoed through his powerful ministry, passion for humanity, strong penchant for speaking truth to power and standing on the side of right.
Our President, Rev. Dr. Timothy H. Stewart; Interim General Secretary, Rev. Dr. Tyrone Pitts; members, officers and the entire Progressive Family extend heartfelt and prayers and condolences to the Booth Family and Mt. Olive Baptist Church Family.
