The Fierce Urgency of Now — GEORGIA VOTE
Greetings my dear Brothers and Sisters of Progressive,
I write to you as your President, brother, friend and co laborer in the fight for justice and equality.
2020 undoubtedly presented a unique set of challenges that we continue to navigate — a global pandemic that has claimed the lives of over 300,000 Americans, the ever present stench of racism, an election season charged with divisive rhetoric, a wide range of voter suppression and intimidation tactics, and the tragic death of Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and so many more precious black and brown lives — indeed, Black Lives Matter! As people turned out in record numbers to vote prior to and on November 3rd, it is abundantly clear that black VOTES matter! Your voice…your vote is sacred. It is what our ancestors and founding fathers of our great Progressive Convention fought, bled, and died for.
This is truly a defining moment in our history; we are confronted with the fierce urgency of now — once again, we urge all Georgians to exercise your right to vote in this most critical runoff, the outcome of which will have grave consequences for all Americans, especially minorities and people of color. As you prepare to head to the polls today, have a plan, take a friend or family member, remain focused and stay the course for much is at stake. Let us not take for granted the historical significance of this particular election. Let us not take for granted the power and significance of one vote.
And so my Brothers and Sisters, in the spirit of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., John Lewis, C.T. Vivian, and Joseph Lowery and with Ambassador Andy Young and Christine King-Farris as witnesses, may we recognize the fierce urgency of now and make history once again.
Yours in Christ,
Dr. Timothy Stewart
